10 Metrics You Must Track (On Your Competitors)

Each with a real number from our public benchmarks, and one line on what it tells you.

· Editorial

ClickUp has 1,541 pages that compare one tool with another. Asana has 10.

No traffic report will show you that. And it is one number. One number is a mood. Ten is a picture.

Here are the ten competitor analysis metrics I would watch, each with a real example from our two public benchmarks: earplugs (Loop vs Hears and Hears vs Alpine) and software (monday.com vs Asana and ClickUp). Most were measured on 11 and 12 October.

1. Which way their traffic is going

By Similarweb's estimate, Hears had about 793,000 visits in August and 457,000 in September. Roughly 40% down. Loop slipped about 4%.

What it tells you: the direction. The size is modelled, so read it as a band, not a number.

2. How many bundles they sell

Loop has 22 bundles in a range of 54 products. Hears has 6 in 20.

What it tells you: how hard they push the basket up. A new bundle tests a price without changing one.

3. What their ads offer

We sampled 50 of Hears' live Meta ads on 2 October. 22 carried an offer, most of them "Buy 2, Get 1 Free". Alpine: 3 of 50.

What it tells you: whether they sell the product or the deal.

4. How often they email

An address we signed up to Loop's list got 29 emails between 18 August and 10 October. About one every two days.

What it tells you: how hard they work people who already know them. It is one subscriber's view.

5. Where they post

Hears posted 30 TikToks between 27 August and 6 October, to an account with 970 followers. Its Instagram has 120,230.

What it tells you: where they are betting next, not where they are big today.

6. Pages for people who are choosing

On 12 October, ClickUp's sitemap had 1,541 pages in its /compare/ folder. Asana vs ClickUp, even Asana vs Jira. Asana had 10.

What it tells you: who shows up at the last step, when the buyer already has a shortlist.

7. Who an AI names first

We asked four AI engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews) six questions that name no tool, like "best project management software". 23 answers came back. ClickUp was named in 18, Asana in 17.

But Asana came first 9 times. ClickUp, 4.

Being on the list is not the same as being the pick. More on share of AI answers.

8. How fast new reviews arrive

In the 30 days up to 11 October, Loop got 144 new Trustpilot reviews. Hears got 77.

What it tells you: who asks their customers for a review. Both sit at 3.5 stars overall, so the pace is where they differ.

9. How fast the site loads for real people

Alpine's homepage takes 2.7 seconds to show its main content for real Chrome visitors. Hears' takes 0.9. Google's field data, not a lab test.

What it tells you: whether the clicks they pay for survive the first few seconds.

10. Where they hire

Of the 50 Asana job ads we read on LinkedIn on 12 October, 12 are in Vancouver and 9 in Warsaw. San Francisco, where Asana has its headquarters, has 8.

What it tells you: where the next team is being built, before anyone announces it. More in job posts as a roadmap.

Which one moved

None of these is hard to find once.

The hard part is checking all ten again 14 days later and seeing which one moved.

Most are leading indicators: they move before revenue does.
