Range and price

Did they change their prices?

Every price and variant, every week, with the size of each move. A quiet 8% rise is a strategy. A sitewide 30% off is a problem.

Worked example, 2026-08-24

50 products priced, from $1.95 to $213.95.

Median sits at $64.95. The spread is what tells you whether they are defending a premium or buying volume.

The entry price is the decision

Most price watching reports an average, which is the least useful number in the range. What matters is the cheapest thing a first-time buyer can start with, and how far it sits from the product they actually want you to buy. That distance is their whole acquisition strategy, published in public.

A change you can act on the same week

Price is the fastest lever either of you can pull, and the only one your customers notice immediately. When theirs moves, you have days rather than months to decide whether to follow, and the report says which direction and by how much rather than that something changed.

What this does not do

We read published prices. Contract pricing, negotiated rates and anything behind a login are outside this.

A week where every price shifts by the same factor is reported as a currency switch and not as a price change, because that is almost always what it is.

Prices are pinned to one currency so two brands can be compared. A brand that prices differently per market is measured in the pinned one only.

Questions we get

How do you avoid false price changes?
Currency pinning, and a guard that refuses to report a week where every price moved by roughly the same factor. A multi-market store can answer the same request in a different currency depending on which node you hit, and without the guard that reads as a 560% price rise that never happened.
Do you track variants or just the headline price?
Every variant. A brand that leaves the headline price alone and quietly retires the cheap size has raised its entry price, and only the variant list shows it.
What about discounts and codes?
Sale depth shows up as a price move like any other, and the welcome offer is picked up separately from their signup flow. A permanent 20% off is not a discount, it is their real price, and the history makes that obvious.
